A major milestone has been achieved in the battle against arms smuggling, as Sector 5 troops of Operation UDO KA, working in tandem with operatives from the 63 Brigade and the Department of State Services, have intercepted a truck conveying over 164,000 live cartridges in Anambra State

On 29 May 2025, security operatives carried out a dramatic bust along the Asaba–Onitsha expressway, following credible intelligence reports. The suspected gunrunner, Mr. Emeka Omenife, was swiftly apprehended while allegedly transporting the deadly cargo
Intelligence sources indicate that Omenife was promptly handed over to the DSS for interrogation. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to being involved in an international ammunition trafficking syndicate that transports weapons from Ghana to Nigeria.
Pursuant to the confession, troops conducted a follow-up operation and arrested another suspect, Mr. Uchenna Obiora, at the Onitsha-Awka tollgate on 30 May 2025, while he awaited receipt of the deadly consignment
The operation led to the successful capture of the truck conveying a massive cache of ammunition, cleverly concealed to prevent detection
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to combating arms trafficking networks that endanger the nation’s peace and security.
