LG Elections: Don’t Present Ex-Convict To Us, OGSIEC Tells Political Parties

The chairman, Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, Mr Babatunde Osibodu has advised Political Parties in the state not to present candidates who are ex-convicts to them.

Osibodu disclosed this at the 2nd Stakeholders ‘Meeting On The Forthcoming 2021 Local Government Elections held at the commission’s Premises, Okelewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Friday.

He enjoined Political Parties to ensure they do thorough investigation about their candidates before presenting them to the commision.

Osibodu added that the commision will work together with security agencies to screen candidates forwarded by political parties to the commision to intensify their status in the society.

He maintained that the commision has the moral rights to disqualify any candidates who have been alleged to be convicted through any of the legal process.

The chairman pointed that security agencies should make sure that the state is properly secured for the forthcoming elections who will hold in July 24, saying that without a secured evironment, the commision can not perform their civil rights by giving the people of the state free and fair local government elections.

While explaining that the commision has put all necessary measures to make the elections free and fair, he charged the residents to support the commision to achieve its goals.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Commision, Mrs Mojisola Dosunmu informed that the Stakeholders’Meeting is to rub minds with all the Stakeholders involved in the elections to bear their minds and map out a way forward for the success of the forthcoming elections.

She solicited for the support of all stakeholders to the commision in order to have a successful local government elections.

Meanwhile, the stakeholders involved in the meeting are, All political Parties, security angencies, human rights and civil rights organizations
