I ‘LL Not Condone Assault, Threats On My Medical Team- Acting MD, FMC Blows Hot

 

The Acting Medical Director, Dr. Fidelis Ojeblenu has said that his administration would not condone threats and breaches of the safety and security of lives and properties of of the health care team in the institution.
 

Ojeblenu disclosed this  during a press conference held at the centre on Tuesday.

He condemned the ugly acts of assault and outright destruction of hospital properties.
 recall that there was a physical attack by a patient’s relatives on one of the medical personnels at the centre on July 6, where by the  relatives who were infuriated by news of the death of the patient, threw caution into the winds and went straight for the patient’s Doctor ,assaulted and inflicted serious injuries on him before he was rescued by his colleagues.
After the Doctors and Nurses at Centre  announced the suspension of night duties to protest the alleged incessant physical assault on their colleagues by relatives of some patients.

A notice to that effect was served to the Management by the hospital’s branches of Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) and National Association of Nurses and Midwives(NANNM) on Wednesday 7th July 2021 and the action was to last initially for three days.
 Ojeblenu  stressed that the centre would do everything possible to ensure that culprits are made to face the consequences of their actions.
The acting MD added that the tertiary hospital has played a leading role in the provision of health care services in Ogun Statez South West Region of Nigeria and boarder communities  of Adjacent west African countries, adding that the institution has offered a continuum of health services, including preventive curative, rehabilitative and palliative professional services.
He said”We have overhauled the security architecture of the hospital in readiness to forestall future occurrences. Plain clothed security agents are on ground to apprehend future culprits

“We also use this opportunity to further express our heartfelt concerns and love to the healthcare workers, the nurses and doctors who are the victims of the recent incidents, and indeed all the healthcare team who are wounded and pained. We stand by you in your efforts at rendering essential life-saving services to humanity”, he concluded 

He  called on the traditional rulers and leaders to join hands in putting an end to the  acts.
The acting MD therefore  maintained  that the centre is committed to caring for the health of the community through efficient services.
