UMUNNA REVOLUTION: Not only aim at bringing governance down to the grassroots but down to every family… Nwankpo

The ‘Family First’ Mantra Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the forthcoming Anambra Governorship election, Dr Akachukwu Nwankpo, has called on the Buhari led Federal Government to create a peaceful environment for electioneering by granting bail to the embattled IPOB Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The call was made through his Director Media and Strategy, Dr Harris Chuma-Odili during a press briefing while unveiling the ‘Umunna Revolution’ an Igbo homegrown democratic model which is meant to be implemented upon assuming office if elected governor of the state.

He said if the Federal Government could do that, it would eliminate the palpable tension in the region and allow the people of Anambra to have a peaceful election for the next constitutional government in the state.

According to him,the continuous incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will add to the already tensed atmosphere towards the governorship election that’s to be held in less than two weeks.

“I want to use this opportunity to call for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention, I don’t know why they are still keeping him.

“They should release Nnamdi Kanu so that we can have our election peacefully, our people are not happy that they are still keeping him.

I don’t think there is anything wrong in granting him bail, they should grant him bail and continue the trial, allow him to go with a good surety and be sure to see him in court on next adjourned date,

“It is not a big deal to allow him a breath of fresh air so that we can go into this election without the palpable fear that is in the air,” he said.

Nwankpo said the Umunna Revolution which the ADC was championing was a ‘kindred-based’ governance model for inclusiveness and wellbeing of all.

He further described it as a democracy model founded on an age long kindred system of the traditional Igbo society where people were part of government instead of the present one where people had to know the few in corridors of power to benefit.

“Umunna Revolution therefore, not only aims at bringing governance down to the grassroots but down to every family, so that the geese and the ganders can be equally treated.

” with about 1.6million people already been captured for this which in our view, will be beneficial to the people.

“This concept will also act as the panacea for the growing insecurity in our land, because governance touches every fabric of the society.

With the possibility of reducing misery to about five per cent with the Umunna Revolution in one year, be rest assured that crime will also reduce by the same margin.

“While people say devolve power to the states or regions, ADC in Anambra is saying devolve governance to Umunna.

“We are optimistic that by the time it begins to yield positive results in Anambra State, a lot more states will be forced to replicate this model in their various states and beyond.
