*Unilag accused of fraud for charging DLI students N20k for 2 weeks electricity bill besides N130k school fees*

The University of Lagos (Unilag) has been knocked over the 20,000 Naira imposed on Distance Learning Institute (DLI) students for two weeks electricity bill on campus.

This was revealed in a circular of the Unilag Distance Learning Institute department obtained online and tagged “Notice To All Students”.

The circular, signed by the Institute’s Secretary, reads:

“As you are aware, the 2021/2022 Residential Programme will commence as scheduled. The Halls of Residence would be opened on Saturday, 1st July 2023 from 9am to receive students and it shall be on first come first serve basis.

“On arrival at the hostel, students are expected to show evidence of payment of electricity charge (Indicate either N15,000 one off payment or installment N20,000 made up of N10,000 in the first instance) and Student’s Biodata.

“Please note that it is expected that electricity charge should be paid as soon as possible. The Director and staff of DLI sincerely wish you all success in your forth coming Examination.

“Best Wishes. Thank you.”

Reacting to the circular, a Twitter user, said the action is nothing short of fraud, calling Unilag a “Yahoo Yahoo 419 university”
