The Civil Society Coalition on Power Sector, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS Senate) and Northern Youth Initiative for Peace and good Governance has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack, the Acting Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, over the multiple instances of systems collapses, leading to power outage in several parts of the country.
The groups noted that Nigeria had experienced over 200 instances of system collapse within the last two years, that AbdulAziz was appointed.
It blamed the collapse on the poor management of system operations under the watch of AbdulAziz sule, who they described as having limited experience with little or without the technical pedigree to manage specialized Power Transmission sector operations.
The groups revealed that major transmission lines are tripping almost on a daily basis in recent times, which has resulted in total or partial system outages or collapse.
Reports on the failure of most of the switch gears (Breakers and Isolators), the groups said, go unreported by the regions probably out of fear for being accused of sabotage.
According to NANS and the Civil Society Organizations, the reason for this unfortunate development is due to negligence of routine maintenance and staff demoralisation.
The Acting Managing Director who was appointed from and within the Company has no regards for technical competency of staff thus relegating them to the background,” said the groups in their jointly signed media release on Monday in Abuja.
The groups suggested that the current situation has assumed a dimension of economic sabotage and wondered if the TCN boss might be a beneficiary of the contracts to repair the damaged assets. We cannot continue to progress in Error.
We therefore call on President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR, to direct the immediate termination of Engr. AbdulAziz sule as the Acting Managing Director of the TCN, and appoint a substantive Md, to save the country from imminent total power blackout in the country.
We have resolved to block access to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja in the next Ten days if our demands are not met.
